RESEARCH
Each member of MMOB Forestry Management has been researching different tree diseases that have been negatively impacting our beloved National Forests. Below is a summary of our specific research with links if you want more information as well as an extensive list of the most common tree diseases. Think of it as a enclyopedia for tree diseases.

Aspen Canker
The reason why Canker disease is threatening the forests is the canker causes internal decay which comprises the structural integrity of the tree which can lead to these trees falling damaging nearby structures. It is crucial to have a large number of healthy Aspens in forests because they do not readily burn meaning they are essentially fire proof.

Swiss Needle Cast (SNC)
SNC was first discovered in trees in the Swiss Alps and is caused by a fungal pathogen. The disease causes the needles on the trees to turn a dark shade of yellow and prematurely drop. The overall result is reduced growth and the inability to reproduce.

Bark Beetle
It is important to defend against bark beetle because they rapidly infect trees which lead to almost instantaneous death. Once the trees are dead the beetles need a new host so they infect the next tree quickly.
